Poerba was a selfgoverning Landschap in the subdepartment of Simeloengoen and the Karo-region, Government of East Sumatra. Rice culture and agriculture were important. The region was prosperous, bordering the Toba Lake. Main town Pematang-Poerba is situated on the auto route (Gonggryp 1934, 1177).
