Indigenous hospital Garut

According to the Gouvernementsbesluit no.17 of 4 March 1913 an Inlands hospitaal had been established at Garoet in the Preanger Residency (West Java). The status of this hospital was a public one, intended to serve the civil indigenous population of the region. That’s why its personnel was appointed by the NI Government. Later on this hospital was replaced by the municipal hospital of Garoet (ca. 1920).

In the 1930s, Garoet was a regency, district and subdistrict of the Residency Priangan, province of West Java. The principal town Garoet was situated 700 m above sea level and had an agreeable climate. It was well visited because of the natural beauty (Gonggryp 1934, 320).
