Landscape hospital Labuhanbilik

A Landschap in the Netherlands Indies was a self-governing administrative unity. As the decentralization policy of the NI Government progressed, not only regencies, municipalities or provinces, but also Landschappen took over existing hospitals from the central government. One of the examples was the Landschapsziekenhuis Laboehanbilik in the department Asahan (East Sumatra). The hospital was newly built in 1928 and was in good maintenance in 1934, as the Memorie van Overgave of that year states.

In the 1930s, Laboehanbilik was a subdivision of the Division Asahan, Government Eastcoast Sumatra. (Laboehan= Reede, batoe= steen).
