Army hospitals

Quite a few army hospitals had a record in the past. The 19th century was the period in which many military hospitals were established, not only for military purposes, but also for the benefit of the civilian population. Whereas civilian hospitals could not cope with the health problems of the population, the functionaries of the Military Medical Service often were appointed as officers of health for the civilian population. In 1890 almost 50 % of the physicians (62 health officers out of a total of 130 medical doctors) were provided by the army. In 1890 there were 85 military hospitals with about 3,200 beds. Nowadays (2020) there are some 125 military hospitals. 75 of them are part of the TNI AD and about 25 each are part of the military Air Force and the Navy. It makes curious which of them formed a continuance with the past.

The most well-known today is the Rumah Sakit Umum PAD Gatot Soebroto at Jakarta. The next list tries to find a continuance between past and present.
