In 1949 Bataafsche Petroleom Maatshapij established a hospital in Balikpapan called the BPM Hospital. Bataafsche Petroleum Maatschappij (BPM) is an oil company owned by the Kingdom of the Netherlands with operations in the Dutch East Indies, including in Balikpapan, a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell.
In 1957 the establishment of PT. The Indonesian National Oil Mining (PT. PERMINA) as the first national oil company resulted in the takeover of all Dutch companies in Indonesia, including their assets. In 1968 PN Pertamin and PN Permina merged to become PN PERTAMINA.
On April 4, 1987 Pertamina Hospital Balikpapan was inaugurated by the President Director of PERTAMINA. Pertamina Balikpapan Hospital (RSPB) was established to provide health services for Pertamina workers and families who work in Balikpapan. RSPB at the beginning of its establishment was managed by UP V Balikpapan. Considering that Pertamina will only operate in its core business, namely the management of oil and gas resources, Pertamina has divested activities that are not directly related to the core business. Pertamina together with the Pertamina Employee Savings Foundation (changed to PT. Pertamina Saving Investment and later became Pertamina Dana Ventura) established a subsidiary to manage health service activities in the form of hospitals, polyclinics and nursing academies under the name Pertamina Central Hospital Limited Company (abbreviated as PT .RSPP). on October 21, 1997. Therefore, in April 1998 the management of the RSPB was handed over to PT. RSPP. Th. 2002 dated July 4, 2002, PT. RSPP changed its name to PT. Pertamina Bina Medika (PT. Pertamedika). Under the management of Pertamedika, Pertamina Balikpapan Hospital has developed into the Hospital of choice for the people of Balikpapan and is one of the referral hospitals for East and North Kalimantan.
