This hospital was established by the NV Landbouw Maatschappij Oud Djember that cultivated tobacco, coffee and rubber in the residence of Besoeki on an estate of 27,000 ha, situated 6km southeast of Djember. In 1937 this estate produced 2,038,000 kg of coffee, 990,600 kg of rubber and 6,708,000 kg of tobacco. (See Comprehensive Atlas of the Netherlands East Indies (KNAG, 2003, p. 331).
