The company hospital of the Deli Spoorweg Maatschappij (DSM) was established at Poelau Brayan, a village 5 km north of Medan. It was mentioned in  the publication of B.M. van Driel, physician of the tobacco company Arendsburg. His article was about mortality among the indentured labourers of Sumatra’s Eastcoast was published in Mededeelingen van het Pathologisch Laboratorium at Medan, nr. 9, 1930. The DSM hospital was mentioned as one of the hospitals within  the hospital resort of Medan. In 1929 the DSM had 618 labourers.

In 1921, the Deli Spoorweg Maatschappij (DSM, Deli Railway Company) moved its main workshops and stores from Medan to Poelaubrajan, where new residential quarters for both Native and European employees were built. (  Grote Atlas van Nederlands Oost Indie, p.97).
