The company hospital Mabar was founded by the Deli Company in Mabar, a Batak kampong in the region Upper Langkat. This general hospital for coolies was founded somewhere before 1918. E. van de Velde reports on this hospital in the review Het Ziekenhuis , nrs. 9, 10 and 11 (1918).

Langkat was a self-governing Landschap, situated in the Government Eastcoast of Sumatra. It was divided into two subdepartments, Lower and Upper Langkat. Together the number of inhabitants was 256,000,of whom 1,400 Europeans and 30,600 Chinesee. The assistant-Resident and the Sultan both reside in the capital Tandjungpura. (Gonggryp 1934, 724).
