The central company hospital Martabing was founded by the Deli Company in the resort Tebing Tinggi on the eastcoast of Sumatra. E. van de Velde reports on this hospital in the review Het Ziekenhuis, nrs. 9, 10 and 11 (1918). It is numbered 23 on the legend of central hospitals in his publication.
Tebingtinggi was the main town of the subdepartment Padang and Bedagai of the department Deli and Serdang, Government Eastcoast of Sumatra. There is a municipal council in Tebingtinggi, chaired by the head of the subdepartment. The town had 10,000 inhabitants, of whom 115 Europeans and almost 4,500 Chinese (Gonggryp 1934, 1396).
