At Sabang on the island of Weh (Government Atjeh) a hospital was established in 1898 by the commercial firm which exploited a coal station on that island on behalf of the indigenous and Chinese workers. The local officer of health functions as its physician. The hospital was well equipped in 1906 (KV 1906). The civil medical report of 1909 mentions the admission of patients with leg wounds and fevers in the hospital of the Sabang Maatschappij.
