The company hospital at Taroetoeng (North Tapanuli) was established about 1920.

Taroetoeng was in the 1930s the capital of the subdepartment Silindoeng, department Bataklanden, Residency Tapanuli (West Sumatra). The town has cool climate (1076 m) and is situated on the motorway Padang-Medan (Gonggryp 1934,1392).
