The company hospital was established in the hospital ressort Kisaran with 31,824 indentured labourers of whom 6.66 % (213) died in a hospital during 1929.
The tobacco company Tandjong Balei was established some time before 1929.

Tandjong Balai was the capital of the self-governing landscape Asahan. The town is situated on the Soengai Asahan and on the railway. The number of inhabitants was 9,000 of whom 150 Europeans and 3,000 Chinese. There is a municipal council chaired by the assistant resident (Gonggryp 1934, 1382).
