The military infirmary Balang Nipa (Bonthain) was mentioned by D. Schoute in his publication “De geneeskunde in Nederlandsch Indie in de 19e eeuw”, GTNI 75 (1935) 10, 827. In this article a survey is presented of the military health facilities in the year 1867 and the 3rd class ziekenzaal at Balangnipa on Celebes is reported to have on average a number of 8 occupied beds. The facility was part of the Military Medical Service (MGD) and admitted 43 patients in 1890 (on average 7 beds occupied) according to Annex D of the Koloniaal Verslag 1891.
Balangnipa was in the 1930s a selfruling Landscape and port town on the Eastcoast of the Southwest peninsula of Celebes.It belonged to the subdepartment Sindjai of the department Bonthain, Government Celebes and Dependencies (Gonggryp 1934, 50).
