This auxiliary mission hospital was first mentioned in the Annex R-XI of the Koloniaal Verslag 1921 as an auxiliary hospital of category I (10-25 beds). It received a subsidy for initial investments of f 5,427 (buildings) and f 1,000 for investment in hospital equipment. So, the founding date will have been about 1920. Pargaroetan is situated north-east of Padangsidempuan,which is a department of the Residency Tapanuli and is situated on the autoroute from Padang to Medan. The department has 277,000 inhabitants and its capital Padangsidempuan has 5,900 inhabitants, 40 of whom are Europeans and 437 Chinese (Gonggryp 1934, 1095).
