The general ‘Inlandsch gouvernementsziekenhuis’ (Governments Burgerlijke Ziekeninrichting) at Tasikmalaya (Preanger Regentschappen) was started as such in 1911 after the ‘gesticht voor de verpleging van zieke prostituees’ closed as such. In 1924 this hospital was closed again and at the same time converted into a provincial hospital for the province of West Java, subsidized by the government.
According to the Koloniaal Verslag 1929 the bed capacity was 184, but the average bed occupation was 195 (nursing days: 71,093). In 1932 the hospital was moved to the address Hospitaalweg no.33, the situation were the Rumah Sakit Umum Daerah Dr. Soekardjo is still established.
