Leprosy hospital Temoempah

About the 1870s the NI Government financed a number of leprosy institutions, e.g at Wangkang (Soerakarta), Temoempah (Menado) and Kadangan (Djokjakarta), at Benkoelen, Palembang, Riouw and Modelemo in Gorontalo (Celebes). In 1877 the number of patients at Temoempah was only 2. As was reported before (1871) leprosy was not considered to be a contagious disease any more and therefore patients were not obliged to be hospitalized .  The existing facilities were to be closed as soon as the number of patients had been diminished to zero.
