The sanatorium for tuberculosis patients was opened in July 1936. It was established om a height of 600 meter on the road from Salatiga to Getasan. The initiator was the local government of Salatiga (Jawa Tengah).
The bed capacity of the sanatorium was 60 beds (Source: Indisch Verslag 1936).
Salatiga used to be the name of a Residency. In the time of opening of the sanatorium, it was a district with a capital of the same name, part of the Residency Semarang, province of Central Java. The main town Salatiga was well-known because of its cool and healthy climate (Gonggryp 1934, 1262-1263).
Nowadays (2019) the sanatorium at Salatiga is established on Jalan Hasanuddin no. 806. Coordinates: Latitude: -7,35 and longitude: 110,49.
The sanatorium is owned by the Ministry of Health of Indonesia and is called: Rumah Sakit Paru Dr Ario Wirawan.
