Hospital at Barabai

The opening of the hospital at Barabai took place in July 1927. The Barabai hospital was situated in the southeastern part of Borneo (Kalimantan).
Nowadays (2017), the Rumah Sakit Umum Daerah H. Damanhuri is established on the Jalan Murakata no.4 and has a capacity of 70 beds.
Barabai was in the 1930s a subdivision with a principal town of the same name (Division Hoeloe Soengai) of the Residency Zuider- en Oosterafadeeling van Borneo (SE Kalimantan). The subdivision was administrated by a Controleur BB, chairman of the local council of the subdivision. The subdivision consisted of the district Barabai and of the subdistricts Barabai, Batangalei and Laboeanamas and counted 114,000 inhabitants of whom 40 Europeans and 300 Chinese (Gonggryp 1934, 102).
