The institution Verpleging hulpbehoevende lijders  (sompok) at Kadjen was established about 1903. It was mentioned in the Koloniaal Verslag 1904 (p. 215).Its personnel was appointed by the NI Government. In later publications of the Koloniaal Verslag and the NI Statutebook no mention is made of this facility.

Kadjen was in the 1930s a district and subdistrict of the regency / Residency of Pekalongan in the province of Central Java.
